Welcome Bevan

We look forward to your musings as the year unfolds.

A Great 5 Years

7 December 2011

Wow! Could it really be that five years has passed so quickly? I can hardly believe it. As I look back to all the good times we had and all the wonderful things the band accomplished, I am reminded of the hard work so many of us put in to keep the band performing as one of Queensland's elite ensembles. Things like that don't happen by accident, and it is a testament to the committee that we have been able to produce the entertaining concerts that we have. There are so many standout moments, but commissioning Flight to Freedom, performing Carmina Burana to a packed house, and our tour to Stanthorpe are memories that will be indelibly etched into my mind. I've had a great time with all of you, have performed some wonderful music and have made some lifelong friends. I'm sure our paths will continue to cross, and I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. I'll be thinking of you every time I sip a Laphroaig.

Onward and upward,

Paul

Father's Day

28/08/2011

I hope everyone is looking forward to next Sunday's concert as much as I am. What a great start to the year we had with our successful tour to Stanthorpe and our Heroes and Villains concert. Follow that up with some great social activities, like the Anzac Park picnic organised by Krissy, and the ever popular poker parties in which I never seem to win, and we have the recipe for a friendly and collegial community band. Please join with me in honouring our fathers next weekend and bring them along to our Postcards and Souvenirs concert after you have treated them to lunch. Perhaps they could wear their new ties?

It's all happening!

08/05/2011

The excitement is palpable. We're gearing up to give our first major concert of the year, Heroes and Villains, and the very next week we will take our act on the road to Stanthorpe. It's a great opportunity to socialise, visit a winery and rehearse some brand new music all in one go. Wayne has been obsessively organising in the background to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. I can't wait to get my hands on our new cold-weather polar fleece QWAB jumpers. They sure will look smart when we play outdoors. Krissy has busily been preparing some questions for our trivia night entertainment during the tour, and I have the SPECIAL BOTTLE OF PORT to be consumed at Top of the Town caravan park. We may even get to play some cards afterwards, who knows? I sure am looking forward to the next two weeks. Bring it on!

Easter Break

What a great start to the year we've had. Besides sinking our teeth into some major classics such as Carmina Burana and Ride of the Valkyries, our new purchases like Ruslan and Ludmilla, Orpheus in the Underworld and William Tell Overture are proving to be a big hit with audiences. Lawn bolws earlier in March went off with a bang, as did the lights at the Toowong Bowls Club. The first gig in the mall this year provided us with a chance to show off some of the fresh pieces and delight the crowd. Now that we have a week off, I'm nearly finished with an arrangement of Big Spender for QWAZZ to use if we can find the right type of singer for it. I hope the Easter Bunny is good to everyone, but try not to blow too much chocolate through your instruments.
